On behalf of our client Veolia, we work with many local authorities throughout the UK to promote their waste and recycling services. In culturally-diverse areas, language barriers can present a real challenge, when explaining the types of materials that can be recycled.
To overcome language and cultural barriers, we always use simple pictorial solutions, supported by crystal clear messaging. These consider the needs of elderly residents as well as those with learning difficulties and colour blindness.
The graphics and characters we create are always bold and colourful and are teamed with a font that is easy to read. The details use clear images of what can and can’t be recycled, often supported by simple ticks and crosses. Each campaign is rolled out locally using a mix of media including door drops, press ads, 48-sheet posters, ad shells and social media ads.
Our local authority partners consistently report an increase in recycling rates as a result of our campaigns. This enables them to divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill and improves their sustainability credentials.
